O FAce Satin Lipsticks

Fall 2021

A common hurdle drugstore products often face is being seen as “inferior” to the more high-end brands. For e.l.f.’s O Face Satin Lipstick, the design team sought to challenge those assumptions and make a product that could visually hold its own alongside more expensive counterparts. Regarding the external packaging, this involved working closely alongside the company art director to brainstorm a lipstick case that conveyed a sense of luxury. The matte black finish conveys a sense of timeless class, which, when paired with its more avant-garde square shape, gives the overall design a certain elevation. Much like the exterior case, the design of the lipstick itself needed to exude affordable opulence. I modeled the bullets using a combination of Rhino, Illustrator, and SolidWorks, then worked closely with the global production team to produce prototypes.

Roles included:

  • 3D modeling & prototyping

  • Secondary packaging layout & typography

  • Collaboration with production team

  • Competitive research
