WEST SIDE PAVILION

Fall 2018

Studio 5.1

This is a proposal for the land currently occupied by the West Side Pavilion Mall in Los Angeles. As the mall faces bankruptcy and the area around it is constantly in flux, the proposal is for a new shopping center with over 600 apartments.

The main elements of the proposal are to put parking underground and use the secondary lot as a full extension of the center, to create public green space, and to create 3 different zones of activity: (R-L) residential, commercial, and office (as separated with the newly added one-way road.

The apartments are 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms, and occupy the same footprint despite the seemingly arbitrary organization. This also allowed for some interesting fluctuations in the facades, as shown in the elevation.
